Importing Goods To Ireland
Importing Your Personal Effects
Ireland has always been a regular destination for Britannia, whether it is natives returning home or others taking advantage of opportunities that the Celtic tiger has to offer. As Ireland is a member of the European Union there are few restrictions on what goods can be imported (See details below).
Custom clearance/documentation
Ireland is a full member of the EU, documentation required should be merely a copy of your passport, however if you are coming from outside the EU they may ask for a copy of your rental agreement/house purchase document. You will also need to complete the Irish customs form 1076, and must have owned your effects for more than 6 months before importing them. Britannia will advise you of the requirements prior to your move.
Transit Times
Groupage or shared load consignments usually take 10-14 days door to door. This can vary depending on time of year and the size of the consignment. Full vehicle loads can normally be delivered within 48hrs.
Prohibitions and Restrictions
In general it is in your interest not to import the following items:
- Firearms & ammunition
- Inflammable goods & substances
- Plants & plant material
- Perishables or otherwise
- Alcohol, narcotics and dangerous goods
- Offensive material
Computer Tracking
Through satellite and computer technology we are able to monitor the progress of your consignment.
Bar Coding
All Groupage consignments will be bar coded before they are loaded into the shipping container. This will ensure that no items are left at origin.
Domestic Pets
Britannia can recommend a specialised shipper of animals to assist you in sending your family pet(s) from home to home. They will coordinate all documentation and necessary veterinary procedures.
Motor Vehicles
Britannia can transport your motor vehicle with your household effects. To import a motor vehicle to Ireland free of import duty you must have owned and used it for more than 6 months before taking up residency, On arrival in Ireland you must register the motor vehicle with your local customs office. Failure to do so may result in it being seized and a large fine. More details are at www.customs.ie.
Insurance
Britannia Movers International is regulated by the financial services authority and accordingly are authorised to provide fully comprehensive marine insurance cover. An insurance pack will be forwarded to you if requested.
Currency Exchange
Britannia are also able to recommend a Currency Broker who will advise you about how to acquire a more competitive rate and provide a more cost effective way of transferring your money.
Storage
Should you require storage prior to delivery this can be arranged. You should expect to pay locally a one off storage handling fee, plus a monthly storage charge.
Destination Services
Service is normally door to door. Goods will be delivered into your new home and place in the relevant rooms, as directed by you. Professionally wrapped and packed goods will be unwrapped and cartons unpacked onto a flat surface. All used packing materials and debris will be removed from site on the day of delivery. Although, there will be insurance implications you do retain the right not to have some or all goods unpacked or unwrapped should you choose.
