Transport Links Derby
Driving in the city centre is not for the faint hearted. Patience is required as, like most cities, traffic can be a real issue. The city is enveloped by the M1 and M42 which, although ideal for commuters, means that rush hour really does mean rush hour. However, some of the congestion is eased by the various Park and Ride schemes that operate Pride Park and the Meteor Centre.
East Midlands Trains and Cross Country provide services from Derby train station. There are twice hourly services on the Midland Main Line to London St Pancras (1 hour 30 mins) via Leicester (22 mins) and northbound to Sheffield (34 minutes). There are inter-regional trains to Newcastle (2 hours 30 minutes), Edinburgh (4 hours 22 mins), Plymouth (4 hours 12 mins), Bristol Temple Meads (2 hours 13 mins), and Reading (2 hours 16 mins).
Other destinations also include Leeds (1 hour 17 mins), Penzance (6 hours 26 mins), Oxford (1 hour 48 mins), Cardiff (2 hours 49 minutes), Nottingham (23 mins), Birmingham (39 mins), and Aberdeen (7 hours 4 minutes). There are also small local stations at Peartree and Spondon but services from these are limited.
The majority of local bus services run through Derby city centre and last buses tend to be around 11:15pm.
