Cambridge House Removals

Cambridge is dominated by it’s famous University, which provides the city with impressive architecture, but also a varied and extensive cultural scene. However, the university city is also home to the UK’s technology industry (known as Silicone Fen) and several multi-national companies, including Microsoft, which adds a contemporary edge to Cambridge.

The centre is a jumble of medieval, Jacobean, Victorian, and 20th century architecture, and home to a variety of historic attractions, shops, restaurants, and colleges. Cambridge is a unique city, but it is also surrounded by quintessential British market towns such as Ely, Saffron Waldon, Royston, and Newmarket.

Moving to Cambridge

Being the home of ancient academic facilities and contemporary businesses means that Cambridge attracts affluent buyers in their droves. The property market is extremely buoyant and there is a huge demand for family homes. The south side of Cambridge is particularly popular due to its excellent schools and transport links to London. In the south there are fantastic period properties that are spacious and light.

The town centre is rich with Victorian and Edwardian properties. Many of these popular homes can be found in Newnham and Chesterton, which are ideally located close to the train station, but come with a price tag to match.  Grantchester and Trumpington are known as the ‘city villages’ and are home to a good selection of large period houses and cottages.

For those seeking new builds, there are a number of developments, including; Cambridge Riverside, The Mark on Hills Road, Kaleisodcope near the train station, and Stanksa.

The Britannia Neaves office is located just one hour from Cambridge, in Shipdham, Norfolk. Therefore, the team are ideally located to help with any house removals to or from Cambridge. As well as a seamless house removals service, they also offer a number of storage solutions.

Schools in Cambridge

Inevitably the student population of Cambridge is high due to the historic university, which buildings dominate the city. The University of Cambridge is a collegiate public research university which was founded in 1209. It is made up of thirty-one constituent colleges, with over 100 academic departments, arranged over six schools. It is one of the most prestigious universities in the UK, along with Oxford, and the two are often referred to as Oxbridge.

Cambridge has numerous primary and secondary schools, as well as a plethora of independents. The Hills Road Sixth Form College is one of the finest state schools in the UK, and the leading independents are made up of The Leys School, The Perse School, and St Faith’s School.

Transport Links Cambridge

The roads of Cambridge are often congested, but the city does benefit from sitting near to the M11, and having a variety of A roads. However, due to the nightmare journeys that many have endured, many travel to work and school via bicycle. Cambridge has the highest level of bike use in the UK.

Cambridge railway station has direct links to London with termini at London King’s Cross (48 minutes) and London Liverpool Street (1 hour 10 minutes). There is a non-stop train to King’s Cross every half-hour during off-peak hours, with a journey time of 45 minutes.
