Once the home of one of the most powerful medieval monasteries in Europe, Bury St Edmunds has some fascinating architecture, from St Edmundsbury Cathedral, to the ancient Anglo-Saxon village of West Stow. For those with a penchant for shopping, the new Arc shopping outlet is packed with high-street names. Locals love the twice-weekly award winning markets that have the finest local produce. There is also a vast array of cafes, pubs, and restaurants for shopping pit stops and evening meals.

There are two sought after areas in Bury St Edmunds; Westley Road in the west and Hardwick Heath in the south. Central streets, west of the cathedral, such as Angel Lane and Guildhall Street, are home to many period properties. Bury St Edmunds Transport Links

The A14 and the M11 act as the lifelines for Bury St Edmunds. Other than these roads, the location is crammed with winding country lanes – be prepared to encounter a few tractors! Ipswich and Cambridge are at either end of the A14, about 30 to 40 minutes away in good traffic.

Getting into London can be a bit of a mission, having to change at either Cambridge or Ipswich depending on whether you want to arrive at London Kings Cross or London Liverpool Street. However, either route can get you to the capital in under two hours. Trains to Ipswich take around 30 to 40 minutes, and Cambridge is a 44-minute journey. Stops include Newmarket, Peterborough, Kennet, Thurston, Ely, Manea, and Whittlesea.

The bus routes in Bury St Edmunds are vast, with many buses terminating in the town centre.
