Covid-19 brought lockdown into play across the United Kingdom and other countries alike. The world pandemic has put a halt on everyday normal life, such as working, shopping and even slowed down moving to a new house. Now that lockdown restrictions have eased, you may be thinking of moving house and there are many things you can be doing around the house during this time to make sure that your home is in perfect marketable shape, whether you’re looking to start speaking to Estate Agents now or later in the year.
Britannia Movers International has put together some tips on things to get to work on around the house so that you have your best foot forward for moving to a new house once life is back to normal.
Painting the House
One of the first jobs you can get on with is repainting the house. Giving your home a fresh lick of paint can brighten and lift a room, which will make it more attractive for potential buyers, if you are in the stage of getting your property together to put on the market.
If you have already sold the property and are waiting for lockdown to be lifted, you can look at some old furniture you may want to renovate to bring to your new home with you. This is a great idea for those who want a project to work on that will be worthwhile for your new home. Some great ideas are making garden furniture out of wooden pallets, or repainting your bedside tables, coat racks and other wooden furniture to give it a new lease of life.
Repair and Refresh
What better time than now to start the DIY projects that you have been leaving till last minute? You won’t have to worry about the repairs needed to be made throughout the house before your move, as you can these done during lockdown. Whether it is plumbing, a broken cupboard or door, you can get these little bits and bobs fixed now.
Other repairs that can be made is the renovation of old furniture. Why not turn your old dining table into something new and spectacular to take with you when you move? Project DIY can be time-consuming, but customising your personal possessions gives you something new and sentimental to bring with you – not to mention the rewarding satisfaction of knowing you’ve completed a project!
Declutter
It is a good habit to declutter the house regularly, not only for potential viewers of the property in future, but building weekly declutter routine means the house you live in is tidy, clean and you can properly relax with no worry about stepping on that plug, or falling over one of the kids toys that has been left out!
Kerb appeal
The phrase ‘kerb appeal’ is often mentioned by Estate Agents as an important factor that buyers look at. First impressions make a huge difference and if the front of your property is looking good and helps the house say ‘buy me’ to viewers, it can help push up the price and speed up offers.
Take some time to step back and imagine what your first impressions might be. Consider cleaning the front windows and front door. Tidy up the drive and maybe look at placing some plant pots outside the door and doing some landscaping if you have a front garden. You can do all of this yourself fairly easily and now the garden centres are back open, there’s an opportunity to visit your local centre and get inspired.
