Is Daventry a nice place to live?

Daventry is a market town in west Northamptonshire, close to the Warwickshire border. The historic High Street in the centre of town holds a market twice a week, plus there are a number of well-known retailers for shoppers.

Daventry is also home to the popular Daventry Country Park, featuring a nature reserve, reservoir and plenty of walking trails. There is also a large children’s play area and outside gym equipment. Other parks in the town offer space for sporting activities and relaxation, plus there is a large leisure centre offering a variety of sports opportunities.

The town has a strong community and many diverse events held throughout the year. This includes a Motorcycle Festival which sees many visitors who come to see and show off their motorbikes. The town also holds a Summer Games day, where residents are invited to try new sports and take part in competitions and games.

Schools in Daventry

Daventry has many good-quality primary schools in the area. Some of the best-regarded include Falconer’s Hill Academy, The Grange School, and Abbey C of E Academy. Falconer’s Hill Academy and Abbey CofE Academy both received Good ratings from Ofsted. The Grange School received a Requires Improvement on their 2018 Ofsted report but has made good progress in improving the necessary factors.

Daventry has two secondary schools in the town. DSLV E-ACT Academy and Parker E-ACT Academy both have Good ratings from Ofsted. The town also has a special education school, Daventry Hill School, educating children from ages 4 to 18.

Transport links in Daventry

Daventry is close to the M1, linking the town to Leeds in the north, down to London in the south. The town is also close to the A45, the A425 and the A360, connecting the area to places like Warwick, Leamington Spa, and Birmingham. Driving to Birmingham from Daventry takes around an hour. Driving to Northampton from Daventry takes 30 minutes.

Daventry no longer has its own railway station. The nearest train station is Long Buckby railway station, a ten-minute drive from the town centre. From Lock Buckby are regular services to Birmingham via Rugby and Coventry, and London via Northampton. Trains to Birmingham take 52 minutes and trains to London take an hour and 20 minutes.

Daventry has a few bus routes that run through the town, including services to Northampton, Banbury and Rugby.
