About Ayrshire

Ayrshire is a country in south-west Scotland, located on the shores of the Firth of Clyde. The largest town in Ayrshire is Kilmarnock, followed by Ayr which is the county town. The county has an abundance of gorgeous landscapes, from the sandy coastline to rugged countryside. The towns of Ayr, Troon and Dunure all offer coastal living and sandy beaches.

Transport links in Ayrshire

Ayrshire is well-connected by rail services, with routes across the county and connecting to other areas in Scotland. Trains from Kilmarnock to Glasgow City take between 35 and 50 minutes. Trains from Saltcoats in Northern Ayrshire to Ayr in the south take between 4o minutes and an hour.

Ayrshire also has a good bus network that connects the county, including some of the more rural and smaller villages.

The nearest airport is Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, which is located within South Ayrshire.

The A77, A70, and A78 are some of the main roads that connect Ayrshire County. Driving from Saltcoats to Ayr takes around half an hour. Driving from Kilmarnock to Glasgow city centre also takes around half an hour.
