Moving to Chester

If you are moving to Chester, you have chosen a beautiful place to move to. Chester is a walled city in Cheshire and sits close to the border with Wales. It is frequently featured in ‘the best places to live in the UK’ lists due to high levels of employment, fantastic schools, excellent shopping, and a plethora of different housing styles.

If you want period homes, Chester is the place. Overlooking the city walls, river, or racecourse are a wonderful mix of Victorian terraces, Georgian townhouses, and quaint cottages. More period homes can be found in the popular Hoole area and head west for areas with a village-like feel. Marlston Avenue is renowned for having some of the best Edwardian and 1920’s homes. For families looking for a quiet slice of suburbia, Boughton, Huntingdon, and Mollington are very popular.

Chester is a very popular place to live and buyers should not expect the low prices that many often assume the further you travel from the south of England.  Two-bed flats start at £110,000 and terraces hover between £130,000 and £850,000 dependent on location and number of bedrooms. Suburban semis and detached homes vary between £200,000 and £900,000, whereas large period homes and townhouses will not leave much change from £600,000.

Schools in Chester

There are five ‘outstanding’ primary schools in Chester according to Ofsted; Christleton, St Columba’s. St Weburgh’s, Mill View, and Upton Heath CofE.

Popular secondary schools include Christledon High, Blue Coat CofE High, and Upton-by-Chester. However, for parents who wish their children have a private secondary education. The King’s School (boys) and Queen’s School (girls) are highly regarded independent schools.
