Ten Reasons to Move to Dorset

Dorset can be what you want it to be; peace and quiet in the villages or busy life in coastal towns. You’ll even be able to book your removals in Bournemouth before finding a quiet country pub to have a locally organic lunch.

So why move to Dorset?

1. Friendly locals. It’s said that living in Dorset is like being free-range and it shows in the friendliness of the locals. No more blaring horns on the motorway or busy supermarkets. Dorset is laid back, take your time!

2. Jurassic Coast. Dorset’s Jurassic coast is a protected World Heritage site. The fossilised remains of creatures can be dug out of the clay and spotted in the hillsides of Charmouth and Lyme Regis. Fossil-hunting is an exciting hobby for children and adults alike.

3. The beaches of Dorset are not just for sunny days. Take a walk on a windy day to see the coast in a different light. All are within easy reach wherever you are based. Public transport in Dorset is excellent. Most villages are served by regular buses, if not a local train.

4. The food. Dorset is foremost a farming community. From fresh fish and seafood to organic cattle and fruit, it’s possible to enjoy local foods every day.

5. History. Dorset is full of history. Thomas Hardy lived there and based The Mayor of Casterbridge on the market-town of Dorchester. Castles, hill forts and long-barrows are scattered around the county.

6. Transport Links. It’s possible to get to London in a few hours, enabling you to keep your south-east salary! Ferries serve Poole and Bournemouth with quick links to France, plus Bournemouth has its own airport.

7. Property Prices. House prices are not as expensive as the South East or London. You might be surprised at what you can buy.

8. Lively towns. Bournemouth, Poole and Weymouth are coastal towns with a lot to offer all age groups. Bournemouth hosts many international students at the University and has a good number of nightclubs.

9. Schools. The population of Dorset’s villages are lower than most UK towns, meaning smaller class sizes and more attention for individual children.

10. It’s as far south as you can get, which means sun and mild winters.

Dorset is a beautiful yet modern county. If you choose to make the move, you won’t look back.
