The Team – Britannia Lanes of Cornwall
Mark Lane – Managing Director
I have been in full time employment with Lanes Storage and Removals Ltd since 1978 and part time (school holidays) since 1973. I started my career out on the trucks and in 1983 became Warehouse Manager to oversee the move to container storage. Joined the sales team in 1989. In 2002 became Project Manager for the large expansion of the Truro site which was completed in 2003. In 2004 I was the main Director for the Truro site while Sylvia Lane became Vice President of BAR in 2005 and President in 2006. I was the National Councillor for the Western Area of BAR between 2006 and 2009. I became the Managing Director of Britannia Lanes in 2007. I have been a Director of Britannia PLC since 2007. Since 2000 with the help of all the family and managers I have been diversifying the business to include Self Storage, Archive Storage, Self Drive Van Hire, Shredding and the latest internet business for Britannia Lanes starting in 2012 lanesmanandvan.com Outside of business my interest from the late 70’s until 2002 was motorsport in the form of tarmac rallying, which I enjoyed immensely. My brother Rob and I entered many National A & B events throughout the country, achieving many class wins and podium finishes. Since 2008 I have had a change in my sporting activities to cycling, competing in TT, Crites and Sportives, again entering events all over the South of England. I have signed up for the Britannia Cycling Challenge for 2012 with a ride for charity from Land’s End to Newcastle, arriving in Newcastle in time for the Britannia Conference on Friday 13th April.
I started working for our family business at 16 part time while studying for a BTEC in Business and full time since I was 18. Since then, I have been learning many different roles within our company including admin, operations & self store/self drive. I have helped develop new ideas such as HomeShred and other items on the website. In my spare time, I enjoy walking our puppy Lilly on the beach and looking after my godson Dylan. I spend lots of time with my boyfriend and friends, going on nights out after a hard week at work.
My name is Paul and I’m the Self store and Self-drive Manager. I started working at Britannia Lanes of Cornwall in July 1995 as a removal man and driver and have been working there for nearly 17 years. I became Self-store and Self-drive manager in 2002. My hobbies include freshwater fishing, watching football and listening to music.
My name is Brian Miles. I have been working with the company for 30 years as general manager, and by the way things are going I could be here another 30! I am married with 2 boys and 3 grandchildren. I like most sports and watch football most weekends (when I’m allowed). My wife and I have just obtained a caravan and hope to be out and about when we can, so I think weekends watching football might be limited!
My name is Andy I currently spend a lot of my spare time studying to complete my chartered accountancy, of which I am now in the last year. I enjoy keeping fit by running and cycling and in the past have completed 5 marathons including running the London marathon twice raising over £5k for charity in the process. I am married to Kelly and we enjoy walking our pet labrador Drake.
I have been working at Britannia Lanes of Cornwall for 4 months now working as one of the secretaries. Those four months I have really enjoyed learning how the business & the removals run, day to day routines and news skills as well as meeting everyone working for Lanes. In my spare time I enjoy being outdoors whether it’s going out on my road bike, running, walking the dog or going in the sea, although I see this as a more seasonal hobby. I spend a lot of time with family and friends & quite like the odd night out.
