Moving to Lincolnshire

The county of Lincolnshire is located in east central England. Whilst it has a vibrant and modern city, complete with magnificent cathedral and popular university, it is largely rural, and many love living in the quaint hamlets and villages that are nestled in the countryside.

Property in Lincolnshire

The style of your home in Lincolshire will often depend upon where you live. However, many move to the country for the beautiful stone rectories, farmhouses and barn conversions which are synonymous with a rural way of living. Villages such as Navenby, Wellingore, Fulbeck, Bassingham, Barnold-le-Beck and Humberston are popular countryside retreats.

Market towns such as Horncastle, Market Rasen, Alford and Louth are home to a number of historic properties, many with their original character features. However, due to Lincolnshire having a relaxed planning policy, there are a choice of newbuild home and apartments for those who prefer more contemporary structures.

Many retirees and second-home owners have properties in the seaside locations of Cleethorpes, Mablethorpe and Skegness, whilst the city of Lincoln has a wide variety of homes to suit all tastes and budgets.

Days Out in Lincolnshire

The first port of call for anybody new to the country is the Museum of Lincolnshire Life, located in Lincoln. The museum houses a collection of the county’s social history from as early as 1750. It is a celebration of Lincolnshire’s past and present. Similarly, Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre in East Kirby is based on a 1940’s RAF Lancaster Bomber airfield and is a fantastic location to learn about Lincolnshire’s aviation heritage.

In the city of Lincoln, both Lincoln Cathedral and Lincoln Castle are considered two of the best days out in the county. Construction of Lincolnshire Cathedral began in 1185 and the castle was ordered to be built by William the Conqueror.

If you have children, there are certain attractions throughout Lincolnshire that will definitely appeal to smaller family members. Lincolnshire Wildlife Park, Rushmoor Country Park and Tattershall Farm Park are all animal-based days out in the county with the necessary amenities for families. However, it is Fantasy Island in Skegness which holds the crown as one of the most popular family days out in Lincolnshire.

Lincolnshire Transport Links

The county is dominated by single carriageway A roads and lots of local B roads. Getting around Lincolnshire by car is relatively easy and there is only noticeable congestion during rush hour. The M180 passes through North Lincolnshire before becoming the M1.

The majority of train services from Lincolnshire’s stations are provided by East Midlands Trains and Northern. However, Virgin, East Coast, CrossCountry and TransPennine Express trains also pass through the county. The East Coast Mainline trains travel directly to London.

Local buses run throughout the county and many rely upon them daily. The majority are provided by Stagecoach, although there are some smaller bus companies providing day to day services in the more rural areas.

Lincolnshire is also home to the small Humberside Airport and Robin Hood Airport near Doncaster.
