Moving to Wellingborough
With improved train services having been implemented, Wellingborough has become a popular place to live with commuters. Wellingborough is championed for its reasonably priced property, high-achieving schools and expansive countryside.
Like many commuter hubs, Wellingborough has a vast mix of properties; from estates full of family properties, to new developments and many Victorian terraces. Many of the newer developments around the railway station are popular with first time buyers due to their affordability and location.
Schools in Wellingborough
One of the most sought after schools in the area is Wellingborough School, a co-educational day and independent school for ages three to 18. The school only began accepting girls in the late 1970s. In terms of popular primary schools, The Avenue, Redwell, Stanwick and Victoria are the top four. However, Little Harrowden, All Saints and Irchester also fare well. For secondary schools, Friars Academy and Sir Christopher Hatton Academy are highly rated, however Wrenn Academy did not achieve a particularly good report during their latest Ofsted inspection and ‘requires improvement’ but safety and behaviour of the students is ‘good’.
Wellingborough Transport Links
Wellingborough sits on the A5193 which connects to a variety of other main roads; the A45 taking drivers to the M1. Northampton is just a 23-minute drive away, Birmingham just over 1 hour and London, 1 hour 30 minutes.
Wellingborough sits on the East Midlands InterCity line, with half hour services to London St Pancras that take 51 to 55 minutes. There is also an hourly service to Nottingham (via Leicester or Corby) which has a journey time of 34 minutes. Other destinations include Luton Airport (35 mins), Bedford (13 mins), Kettering (7 mins), Loughborough (46 mins), Melton Mowbray (54 mins), and Lincoln Central (2 hours).
Wellingborough is also served by an extensive local bus network and the 455 National Express coach service between London and Corby.
