Schools in Hassocks

Hassocks Infant School is a maintained infant school for pupils aged 4 to 7 and built in 1877 as a Victorian Board School. It currently caters for around 210 pupils. The school is centrally located in the village.

Secondary education for Hassocks and surrounding areas is provided by Downlands Community School. Downlands does not have a sixth form and children wishing to do ‘A’ levels have to travel to a variety of sixth form colleges, including Varndean College, St Paul’s Catholic College (Burgess Hill), Brighton Hove & Sussex Sixth Form College and Hurstpierpoint College.

Transport Links in Hassocks

Hassocks railway station services two London stations; St Pancras International and London Victoria. There are three trains to the capital per hour, two to St Pancras and one to Victoria. Journey times vary between just under an hour to just over an hour. Trains to Brighton are also very regular and journey time is 10 minutes.

There are further direct trains to and from Haywards Heath, Gatwick Airport and Luton Airport.

There are many bus services to choose from in Hassocks. Numbers 17, 28, 29, 33, 36, 40, 41, 86, 89, 100, 134, 270, 271, 272, 273 and 824 link Hassocks to Brighton, Lewes, Haywards Heath, Horsham and other local villages.

If travelling from Brighton, take the A23 and A273 to Hassocks. If southbound on the A23, take the A2300 via Burgess Hill. From east/west use the B2116.
