There are two state-funded secondary schools in Altrincham; Altrincham College of Arts and Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College. During their latest Ofsted inspections, both schools were deemed ‘outstanding’ by Ofsted. However, parents do have their choice of Altrincham Grammar School for Boys, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls or Loreto Grammar School. However, students will need to sit an entrance exam.
North Cestrian Grammar School in the local independent all-through school. Altrincham Preparatory, Bowdon Preparatory School for Girls and Loreto Preparatory School are available for children aged up to 13 years old.
Transport Links Altrincham
Getting into Manchester city centre by car can be chaotic during rush hour but many Altrincham residents make the most of the extensive bus routes which run through the town. However, those who commute by car for work have the M56 to the south, M6 to the west, the M62 to the north, and the M60 to the east.
Altrincham Interchange is the town’s transport hub, functioning as a bus station, railway station and light rail terminus, also known as Metrolink. Metrolink services to Manchester and Bury are every six minutes Monday to Saturday and every 12 minutes on a Sunday.
In terms of train services, there are two per hour during off-peak hours calling at Manchester Piccadilly, Chester, Stockport, Wigan Wallgate and Southport.
