Haslemere is the most southerly town in Surrey and is 12 miles southwest of Guildford. The town centre itself has some lovely restaurants, located in old medieval beamed buildings that have survived until today. Many love living in Haslemere because of the untouched expanses of National Trust countryside, but ability to get into larger towns and city if needed.

The majority of properties in Haslemere are tile-hung gables. The old centre of Haslemere has some fantastic medieval examples; half-timbered cottages filled with red brick. As you exit the town and head to the leafy lanes of the surrounding hills, you’ll find picturesque arts and crafts properties, next to beautiful Edwardian and 1920’s homes. There are also a number of ranch-style homes with equestrian facilities.

You will be hard-pushed to find a bargain in Haslemere, aside from potential doer-uppers. Flats for sale tend to flit between £150,000 to £325,000 and fetch around £800 pcm in the rental market. Three bed houses tend to be let for a minimum of £1,200 pcm. Terraced homes to buy fall between £240,000 and £340,000, with semis in the same bracket but up to £600,000. There are so many detached homes in Haslemere that the bracket is vast, from £500,000 to £4 million.

Schools in Haslemere

There are two primary schools in Haslemere; St Bartholomew’s CofE and Camelsdale. St Bart’s is ranked ‘good’ by Ofted, whereas Camelsdale is ‘outstanding’. The town’s only secondary school, Woolmer Hill, is ‘good’, but many children go to local independents.

Haslemere Preparatory School is a co-educational independent for boys and girls from nursery age to thirteen.  St Ives is located on the outskirts of Haslemere and is a girls school for those aged two to eleven and ‘prepares girls for the challenges they will face in life’. On the Haslemere/Hindhead border is Amesbury School, an independent prep school educating girls and boys between the ages of two and thirteen.

In terms of all-through education, the senior school and sixth form for The Royal School is located in Haslemere. It is a leading co-ed independent day and boarding school and is featured in the top 100 independent schools for A Levels.

Transport Links Haslemere

Haslemere is passed by the A3, connecting Portsmouth and London. The M25 is just 40 minutes-drive, whereas the south coast is little over an hour. Guildford is a 23-minute drive, or 13 to 18 minutes on the train from Haslemere station. The station has three platforms, with four to five trains per hour at peak times. London Waterloo is just under one hour away if you catch the fast service, and Portsmouth Harbour (in the opposite direction) is a 40 to 50-minute journey.
