Singapore Customs and Imports

Britannia Ryans can provide advice and guidance for the necessary customs forms and paperwork needed for your specific shipment to Singapore. In general, importing personal effects into Singapore will incur a Goods and Services Tax (GST). You will need to obtain a permit to import your items and pay the GST.

You will qualify for GST relief and be able to avoid the payment if you are a Singapore citizen returning to Singapore, or a foreign citizen transferring your residence. The goods will need to be imported within the first six months that you arrive in Singapore, and you will need to be present at customs for them to clear.

Liquor, tobacco, automobiles, private aircraft, boats and commercial goods are not eligible for GST relief, even if you qualify under the other conditions. The Singapore Customs website has a list of prohibited and controlled goods for import, so you can check before you travel.
