Borehamwood is a town in southern Hertfordshire that has been growing in popularity. Located in London’s commuter belt, the town provides residents with a quieter, small-town life within easy distance of the big city.

Even with the more relaxed vibe, there’s plenty to see and do in Borehamwood. With Elstree Studios nearby, it’s no surprise the town has a great arts culture, with a cinema, theatre and many activities and groups. There are also plenty of open green spaces and parks to get outside and enjoy nature.

There are some Victorian properties in town, particularly near the station, but the majority of homes were built in the latter half of the 20th century and the past decade. There are ample large properties with lots of outside space, the kind of which are favoured by families.

Schools in Borehamwood

Borehamwood has around 11 primary schools and 2 main secondary schools in the town. Some of the best primary schools in Borehamwood include Parkside Community Primary School, which has an Outstanding Ofsted rating, and Yavneh Primary School and St Teresa Catholic Primary School, which both have Good Ofsted ratings.

Yavneh College is one of the main secondary schools in the area, and this establishment has an Outstanding Ofsted rating. There is also the Elstree Screen Arts Academy, which is a creative technical college for students aged 14-19. It has a good rating from Ofsted.

Transport links in Borehamwood

Borehamwood has great transport links, connecting various parts of the town as well as routes to London and further afield across the UK. Borehamwood is in TFL Zone 6 and Elstree & Borehamwood Railway Station is located on the west side of town. There are regular and frequent trains to central London, which takes around 25 minutes.

The 107 bus run by Metroline travels through the town, going from New Barnet to Edgeware. There’s also the number 292 bus run by London Sovereign that travels to north-west London. The bus company Uno run a service that goes through Borehamwood and on to Welwyn Garden City via St Albans. There are also various other routes that run to Hatfield and other parts of Hertfordshire.

The A1 Road runs by the town, which is also between the M1 and the M25. Driving to central London takes around an hour. Driving to Watford takes 20 minutes and to Hatfield takes around 15 minutes.
